My mum got a check in the mail for 7,123 Dollars, she didn’t know it was fake and she cashed it, and spent $ 100 out of the 7,123 dollars. She got a call from the bank saying it was a fraud check. They also said they have to call the Police on her but mum didn’t know it was fake. She’s also a victim of a scam too because a few months ago someone emailed her this

Will my mum go to Jail? I’m so scared and mum is really stressed out now. We have to meet the Police tomorrow.
So she has to pay back 7,123 dollars? We can’t afford to pay all that back at once omg.

Answer by Char
No but she will have to pay back the money.

Answer by trooper6387
it is not likely that she will have to go to jail for this. it is unusual a check of this size would be cashed without knowing its validity, but those things happen…Just be honest with the police. They have to investigate complaints and they take their findings to the prosecutor and he will determine if an arrest warrant is necessary. As a former police officer I would think that your mother would have to reimbuse the bank for the 100 dollars and the matter should end there with an important lesson learned by your mother. good luck

Answer by John
If she just spent 100 then she must pay back 100 plus any fees. Hopefully she did not send the rest of the money away. She must only pay back what the bank is missing from the total 7,123 She will not go to jail but she must correct things and learn a big lesson. Please write back and say she did nothing with the other 7000. Good luck.
